My name is Brenton Backer and I am a freshman here at ASU West. I am a Secondary Education Math Major, and I have no other Art History classes, currently or completed. Although I would not say I am passionate about art, I do have some interest in it and definitely a respect for all art as well. Among other things, my mother is an Art History Major, so my family and I have been going to art shows since I can remember. My mother also does many forms of artwork and has had a couple shows of her own, so I am familiar with the time and effort it takes to be an artist.
While I have thoroughly enjoyed artists such as Monet, Rockwell, and Rembrandt, personally, my most memorable encounter with art would have to be the first art show of my mother's that I attended. It was at Paradise Valley Community College, and she probably had around 20 pieces exhibited. Each piece sparked different emotions; some were of family members, one of an abstract butterfly that is still up in our house, and a few still lifes. But I would say that the reason it was so memorable was because it really opened my eyes to how much art is around me daily, and that my mother could see all of that.
